Site Visit - Manchester Bioresources Centre
Monday 10th November

Manchester Bioresource Centre (MBC), is United Utilities' (UU) lower tier COMAH Bioresource Production facility, treating circa 100k tds per annum, equating to around 60% of all UU sludges. 

The sludge is transported to MBC in liquid and cake form by tanker, tipper and pipeline.  MBC has 4 Cambi TH streams pre-treating the sludge before digestion and subsequently generating around 60 Gwh per annum through 5 x CHP, additionally the site operates a Biomethane to Grid facility.

BAS accredited enhanced biosolids are produced on site and delivered to UU's farming customers.

This visit will include a background talk in the site's meeting facilities (refreshments included) and a tour of the site by operating staff.

Please have an early lunch before the visit.  

Please note all participants will be required to provide their own safety boots. Additional PPE will be provided onsite.

Approx. timings:

  • 12:50 Gather at The Point, Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester
  • 13:00 Depart for site
  • 16:30 Arrive back at Emirates Old Trafford
