Name
Integrated anaerobic digestion and pyrolysis for sewage sludge treatment: Environmental performance assessment
Speakers
Description
Growing concerns over pollutants in sewage sludge have spurred interest in combining anaerobic digestion (AD) and pyrolysis (Py) to improve energy recovery and reduce environmental impacts. The poster shows the environmental performance of six different treatment scenarios: standalone AD or Py and 4 integrated AD-Py configurations. Among the 4 integrated scenarios were Py of digestate with and without aqueos pyrolysis liquid (APL) and solid/liquid seperation where liquid with and without APL goes to AD and solid goes to Py. The results shows that Py of digestate is a promising pathway for sewage sludge treatment showing the lowest climate change impact and lowest ecotoxicity.
