Professor Rupert Hough is Director of Digital Transformation at the James Hutton Institute, where he leads work at the intersection of environmental science, data, and digital innovation. His research focuses on modelling the fate, transport and risks of contaminants in land and water systems, including those associated with biosolids application. This includes developing evidence and modelling approaches to understand potential environmental pathways for antimicrobial resistance (AMR), antimicrobial compounds, and other emerging contaminants. He is particularly interested in how integrated data, risk assessment and decision-support tools can help translate complex scientific evidence into practical, proportionate management of biosolids and other organic resources.
